I have asked our students to stop working on their Science Fair projects.
After discussions with Mr. Gardner (our Principal) and Mr. Young (our Science Department Chair), I think the nature of this project is going to change.
I would like to move this project to spring and weave our science fair project (a detailed exploration of science process skills) into our Plants Unit. I would like to spend the last quarter of the school year experimenting with plant in class.
I think this will be a really valuable educational experience because the whole class will be able to integrate standardized data in our research and we will be able to compare and contrast our experimental findings. I really like the idea of the vast majority of the work being done in the classroom.
Furthermore, instead of winners and losers, we foster a feeling of collaboration. This is the spirit that seems compatible with our seventh grade Pinewood science classroom.
I will be sending home a more complete letter detailing the changes to our seventh grade science fair project, but I wanted you to know what I had in mind.
If any student still wish to compete in the county fiar (SYNOPSYS) they may talk to Miss Robinson or myself and we will help them with their project.
